Answer: The main difference between the Lap Band and other types of weight loss surgery is that the Lap Band does not involve cutting or stapling any portion of your GI tract. Instead, a band is placed around the upper part of your stomach and made tight so that it compartmentalizes your stomach into a small pouch at the top and a larger pouch beneath it. This approach also enables adjustments to be made after the surgery to accommodate any issues that may arise and because no permanent changes are made to the anatomy of GI tract, the band can be removed in the future with restoration of the original anatomy of your stomach.
